It has three coats of a gloss polyurethane applied to it for protection from food and water. It can be wiped clean with a soft cloth and furniture polish can be used to give it extra protection from food and water spills. The painting of the border collie is painted on a wooden disk that has been cut out from blond plywood. It is hand painted by me using acrylic paints. It also is protected with a polyurethane finish. This beautiful dog feeder is securely held together using screws, brad nails, and wood glue. The bowls are 2 quart stainless steel bowls that are included. The dimensions are, length 20.5" height 12", and width is 11.25".
